Designs & pages
What a design is, the design kinds, page sizes and units, print bleed, and how designs are saved and versioned.

Designs#
A design is one document with a name, a kind, its pages and everything they contain, the assets it uses (images, fonts, SVGs, video, audio) and its reusable styles. Designs belong to a workspace and can live in folders.
Designs are saved continuously. There is no save button: each gesture (a drag, a resize, a finished text edit) becomes one transaction that is sent to the server, so closing the tab never loses work. Named versions and automatic snapshots are kept in version history.
Design kinds#
The kind tells Desyn what you are making. It picks default sizes, safe margins, the AI's layout and copywriting conventions, and where the design shows up on the dashboard.
| Group | Kinds |
|---|---|
| Social & ads | social-post, story, thumbnail, banner, ad |
poster, flyer, business-card, invitation, menu, book-cover, certificate, sticker | |
| Documents | presentation, document, resume, newsletter, infographic, whiteboard |
| Brand & product | logo, mockup |
| Web & motion | website, video |
| Anything else | custom |
You can change the kind later from the Design panel; it does not move or resize anything.
Pages#
Each design has one or more pages, shown in the page strip under the canvas. A page has:
- Size — width and height. Pages in one design can have different sizes (for example a cover and inner pages).
- Unit —
px,mm,inorpt. Units change how sizes are displayed and exported; internally every position is stored in design pixels (96 per inch), so switching units never moves anything. - Background — one or more fills: a color, gradient or image.
- Bleed — extra area outside the page edge for print, included in print PDF exports with crop marks. See export.
- Layout grid and guides — columns, gutter, margin and an optional baseline, plus guides you drag from the rulers.
- Notes — speaker or designer notes, shown in presenter view.
- Duration and transition — for presentations and video: how long the page shows and how it transitions to the next (fade, slide, push, zoom, dissolve).
Pages cannot be nested inside other pages, and every layer belongs to exactly one page.
Limits#
How many designs you can keep and how many pages a design can have depends on your plan. On Free, a design can have up to 10 pages; on Pro, 200; self-hosted is unlimited. See plans and credits for every limit.
