Layers & pages
Working with the layers tree — renaming, reordering, locking and hiding — and adding, reordering, resizing and duplicating pages.
On this page
The Layers panel#
Open Layers in the left rail (⌥Alt1) to see the current page as a tree, front-most layer at the top.
- Select a layer by clicking it; ⇧Shiftclick selects a range and ⌘Ctrlclick toggles individual layers.
- Rename by double-clicking the name or pressing ⌘CtrlR. Names matter: they show up in comments, version history and AI descriptions.
- Reorder by dragging. Drop onto a frame or group to put the layer inside it.
- Lock a layer to protect it from accidental edits on the canvas (⌘Ctrl⇧ShiftL). Locked layers can still be selected in the panel.
- Hide a layer (⌘Ctrl⇧ShiftH) to keep it in the design without rendering or exporting it.
- Collapse and expand containers with the disclosure arrow; ⌥Altclick on the arrow expands every level.
Icons show each layer's type, and a small marker shows layers that mask, use auto-layout or have a semantic role. While the agent is working, the layers it is changing pulse with a soft glow.
The tree is virtualized, so even pages with thousands of layers scroll smoothly.
Pages#
Pages are shown in the page strip under the canvas and in the Pages panel.
- Add a page with the + button or ⌘Ctrl↩Enter. New pages copy the size of the current one.
- Duplicate a page from its context menu — the fastest way to make variations.
- Reorder pages by dragging thumbnails.
- Resize a page in the inspector with nothing selected. Choose a preset (A4, Letter, Instagram post, 16:9 slide…) or type a size; constraints decide how the content follows. For a smart reflow into different formats, use resize.
- Navigate with PgUp and PgDn.
- Delete a page from its context menu. Like everything else, it can be undone.
Each page keeps its own background, grid, guides, bleed, notes and — for presentations and video — duration and transition.
Page limits#
Free designs can have up to 10 pages, Pro up to 200, and self-hosted designs are unlimited.
