Adding text#
Press T and click to create a text layer that grows with what you type, or drag to create a fixed-width box that wraps. The Text panel on the left has ready-made presets (heading, subheading, body) and curated font pairings.
Double-click a text layer or press ↩Enter to edit it, and Esc to finish. Text editing uses your system's text input, so spell checking, autocorrect, dictation and input methods for every language work as usual.
Character styles#
Select text (or the whole layer) and use the Design tab of the inspector:
- Font family — searchable, previewed in each font. Google Fonts are available on every plan; uploaded custom fonts need Pro.
- Weight and style, size, letter spacing (in em) and line height (auto, pixels or percent).
- Fill — solid color or gradient, from your brand kit or any color.
- Case — as typed, UPPERCASE, lowercase or Title Case, without changing the underlying text.
- Decoration — underline or strikethrough, and a highlight color behind the text.
- Link — turn a run into a link (⌘Ctrl⇧ShiftU), kept in PDF and website exports.
Styles apply to the selected characters only, so one layer can mix weights, colors and sizes. Bold, italic and underline have the usual shortcuts: ⌘CtrlB, ⌘CtrlI, ⌘CtrlU.
Variable fonts and OpenType#
For variable fonts, the inspector shows a slider for each axis the font has (weight, width, optical size, slant and custom axes). Under Details, toggle OpenType features such as ligatures, stylistic sets (ss01…), tabular figures, small caps and fractions — only the features the font actually supports are listed.
Paragraphs#
Per paragraph you can set alignment (left, center, right, justify), direction (left-to-right, right-to-left or automatic), paragraph spacing, first-line indent, and bulleted or numbered lists (⌘Ctrl⇧Shift8, ⌘Ctrl⇧Shift7). Right-to-left scripts such as Arabic and Hebrew shape and wrap correctly, including mixed-direction text.
Sizing and overflow#
A text layer resizes in one of three ways, set in the inspector:
- Auto width — a single line that grows as you type.
- Auto height — fixed width; the box grows downward as lines wrap.
- Fixed — the box stays put; text that does not fit overflows and is flagged.
Set Max lines to cut long text with an ellipsis — useful in templates where content varies. Vertical alignment (top, middle, bottom) positions the text inside a fixed box.
Curved text#
Set Curve to bend a text layer along an arc. Positive values curve upward, negative downward; 360° wraps it into a full circle for badges and stamps. Curved text stays editable.
Outlined text#
Add a stroke to a text layer for outlined or double-outlined lettering, with inside, center or outside alignment.
Text styles#
Save a combination of font, size, spacing and paragraph settings as a text style in the Design panel. Layers that use the style update when you edit it, and the AI prefers existing styles when it adds text. Text styles from your brand kit appear here automatically.
Custom fonts#
Upload .ttf, .otf, .woff or .woff2 files in Uploads → Fonts or in your brand kit (Pro). Custom fonts are stored with your workspace and travel with designs into exports, the desktop app and iOS.
Asking the AI#
The agent can write and rewrite text in place while keeping its styling: "shorten the body to two lines", "rewrite the headline in our brand voice", "translate this page to Spanish". See the agent.
