Fills#

A shape, frame, page background or text can have several fills, stacked bottom to top. Each fill has its own opacity, visibility and blend mode.

FillSettings
SolidA color, or a reference to a color style or brand variable
Linear gradientAngle and any number of color stops
Radial gradientCenter and radii, color stops
Conic gradientCenter, start angle, color stops
ImageFill, fit, tile or stretch; scale, offset and rotation; image adjustments

Edit gradients directly on the canvas: drag the handles to change direction and size, click the gradient line to add a stop, and drag a stop off the line to remove it.

The color picker has a saturation/brightness area, hue and alpha sliders, hex and RGB input, an eyedropper that samples anything on screen, your document colors, and your brand kit palette.

Strokes#

Add one or more strokes to shapes, frames, images and text:

  • Width and alignment — inside, center or outside the edge.
  • Paint — any fill type, so strokes can be gradients.
  • Dashes — a dash pattern such as 8 4.
  • Caps (butt, round, square) and joins (miter, round, bevel), with a miter limit.

Effects#

Effects are listed in the Effects tab. Add as many as you like and toggle each on or off.

EffectWhat it does
Drop shadowOffset, blur, spread and color behind the layer
Inner shadowThe same, inside the layer's edge
Layer blurBlurs the layer itself
Background blurBlurs whatever is behind the layer — frosted glass. Works best with a semi-transparent fill
NoiseAdds film grain; amount, scale, mono or color
GlowA soft colored halo around the layer

Basic shadows are available on every plan; background blur, noise, glow and stacked effects are part of the advanced effects in Pro.

Save a set of effects as an effect style to reuse it across layers.

Opacity and blend modes#

Layer opacity is set with the slider in the Design tab, from fully transparent to fully opaque.

Blend modes control how a layer mixes with what is below it: normal, multiply, screen, overlay, darken, lighten, color dodge, color burn, hard light, soft light, difference, exclusion, hue, saturation, color and luminosity. Fills have blend modes too, so a single layer can combine a photo with a multiplied gradient.

Consistent rendering#

Effects are rendered by the same Rust engine in the editor, the desktop and iOS apps, and every export, so a shadow looks identical on screen, in a PNG and in a PDF.
