The inspector
The right-hand inspector and its five tabs — Design, Arrange, Effects, Animate and Position — and how editing values works.
The inspector on the right edits whatever is selected. With nothing selected, it shows the current page: size, unit, background, bleed, layout grid and notes. Its tabs are always in the same place so your hands learn where things are.
Design#
The look of the selection:
- Fills and strokes — see fills, strokes & effects.
- Text — font, size, weight, spacing, alignment, lists, case and decoration for text layers. See text.
- Image — fit, crop, shape, adjustments, filters and alt text for images. See images.
- Shape — corner radius and smoothing, sides, points, arcs.
- Chart, table, QR — the data and appearance of those elements. See charts, tables & QR.
- Opacity and blend mode.
- Role — the semantic role of the layer.
Arrange#
How layers relate to each other: align and distribute, tidy up into rows or grids, match sizes, layer order, and the auto-layout settings of a frame.
Effects#
Shadows, blurs, noise and glow, plus effect styles. See effects.
Animate#
Entrance, exit and looping animations for presentations and video, with timing and easing, and page transitions. See animation & video.
Position#
Exact geometry: X and Y (relative to the parent), width and height with the aspect lock, rotation, flips, constraints, auto-layout sizing (fixed, hug, fill), and links (to a URL or another page).
Editing values#
Every number field in the inspector works the same way:
- Type a value, or arithmetic such as
120/3or+8. - Scrub: drag the field's label left or right; hold ⇧Shift for larger steps.
- Use ↑ and ↓ in a focused field to step by 1, or by 10 with ⇧Shift.
- With several layers selected, fields that differ show Mixed; setting a value sets it on all of them.
Colors accept hex (#ffb02e), and the swatch opens the full color picker. Linked values — a color style or a brand variable — show the style's name; detach to edit the value directly.
Mixed selections#
When you select different kinds of layers, the inspector shows only what they have in common. Selecting text inside a text layer narrows the controls to character and paragraph styles for just that range.
